Hop on in our 40-year-old Volkswagen and discover Brač like a local.
The tour begins in the beautiful city of Supetar, from where we take the seaside road all the way across the hill to Pucisca.
The tiny town of Pucisca is a regional center for quarrying and cutting stone with three large quarries located just outside. We will visit the famous stonemason school and one of the quarries where you will learn about importance of Brač stone that has been used to build houses and more throughout Croatia and the world.
After Pucisca we take the gravel road to Mlatinje hill, to find out more about Vapnenica.
Vapnenica is a traditional construct made for extracting lime and a true cultural heritage, reconstructed by local stone work master and volunteers. This location is the perfect spot for those interested in history and culture. Before, vapnenice were traditionally built and then burned to the ground in the process of getting lime. That means that there were no vapnenica left on the whole island. By reconstruction and joint efforts of the island associations this vapnenica proudly stands today as a living artefact of the past.
Next, we head to the heart of Brač, to a small medieval village Praznice, which is today very lively due to rural tourism and its local delicacies.
After Praznice, we visit the highest peak of the island - Vidova Gora. This mountain offers not only the best view on the island, but also the possibility to discover the pristine nature of the Mediterranean area.
Sheltered by the black pines we will be enjoying the nicest view before we go through Nerezisca on our way to Skrip.
In Skrip. we will visit the Museum of oil.The museum presents the traditional process of olive oil making on the island Brač. The museum of oil exhibits olive mill, olive press, spindle for tightening press screw, bags, fireplace for heating the water and all traditional tools for transport, production and storage of olive oil. It’s not all storytelling, you will be able to taste the finest olive oils of Brač here and enjoy a snack.
After this our caravan goes for a little walk to the viewpoint that overlooks the fertile valley of Dol, the village Dol itself and the olive groves scattered around the surrounding hills.
The van ride continues to the bottom of the valley to the traditional tavern Kaštil Gospodnetic for a light lunch, where you will be able to enjoy a variety of local foods and beverage such as wine and juice, tuna and olive spread, local cheese and prosciutto, vegetable pie and a traditional cake.
